Brittingham Park

Brittingham Park is a small area renovated in 2019 to include synthetic turf, doggy drinking fountains, and bowls. It’s fenced, has benches, and a bag dispenser for when your dog inevitably has to go, and you forgot yours on the couch rack at home.
This park is locally known as a gem. It’s right near downtown Madison, and it has more than you would ever dream. In addition to a dog park, it has basketball, a playground, a community garden, fishing, canoe and kayak rentals, volleyball courts, and even an ultimate frisbee field! There is, quite literally, something for everyone in this park. Grab a cup of coffee from the Fair Trade Coffee House and spend the evening watching the sunset with your pup running free.
Southwest Commuter Path

If you’re ready for some adventure and a bit of exercise, this 5.6-mile path on Lake Monona in Dane County is just where you need to be. It is one of 1600 rail-trails that are supported by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy organization, which is a nonprofit. They’re currently working to create a network of former rail lines that span the nation. It’s an incredible thing to explore, especially if you’re not familiar with the program. This trail is a complete loop, which means there’s no worry about knowing when or where to turn around. Throughout the entire path, there is gorgeous scenery, country settings, wooded areas, and endless things to sniff. It’s a break from the normal hustle and bustle of Madison life.
Sycamore Park

Sycamore Park is a well-stocked stop for you and your pup to get some off-leash play time. It has lots of poop bags for you, tons of space (19.9 acres), and super–friendly regulars. Perhaps the best part about this park is that it has a different area for small dogs. This makes sure your furry friends are comfortable with friends of their size and temperament.

If you get sick of the main park, all you have to do is leash up and pick one of the many walking paths that spread out from the park. There isn’t much shade and no swimming, so make sure you bring plenty of water and a bowl so that you and your pup can stay hydrated.
Quann Dog Park

Looking for open space? Quann Dog Park is the place for you. It’s another off-leash area that’s larger than most of the other dog parks in the area, including ones that require leashes. It’s not exactly rolling hills, but it is a well-maintained place where you and your pup can spend time together in the sun. It is sometimes closed for events, so make sure you check the city page for any necessary updates.
If you live in the downtown Madison community, you’re sure to find this park a convenient and welcoming place to be. Not only can you bask in some natural beauty, but you can also exercise, soak in some Vitamin D, and even take lots of opportunities to train around other dogs and people. For many locals, it’s their favorite park in Madison.
Warner Park

Warner Park is perhaps Madison’s most distinctive park. If you live in the city, you probably know about it. It’s a stunning piece of land where social events such as charity gatherings and community festivals are always happening. The charm of Warner Park goes beyond the colorful shelter, the playground, the beach, and the reservable pavilion. It extends all the way into an off-leash dog park that’s known and loved by many.
You’re welcome to explore the open fields, the wooded trails, and the non-fenced beach areas. The Warner Park Lagoon is not tested by Public Health Madison, so always check conditions before allowing your dog to go for a swim. You can also check for warnings and more info here.
You can drive to the park, but note that parking isn’t allowed on the grass beside the yellow-painted curbs. If you live nearby, it might be worth just walking. You can get your daily exercise in while priming your pup for the most fun of their lives. Remember to bring water!
